2.2 Appropriate use
The calibration sources, t
ype IRC 45 up to IRC 150, are instruments for inspection of the meas-
urement accuracy of pyrometers (radiation thermometers) at fixed temperature values. The highly
accurate control ensures constant and stable heating of the large emitter surface with high
temperature uniformity with a maximum deviation of 0.2°C. In combination with the high emissivity
at 98% of the emitter surface, the exact verification of pyrometers with larger spot sizes is achiev-
able. The compact dimensions also enable the checking of fixed installed pyrometers at the
measuring location.
2.3 Scope of delivery
Calibration source (IRC 4
5, 70, 75, 95, 100, 110, 120, 140 or 150), stand, power supply 230 V AC
24 V DC, user manual, works certificate (option: Instrument packed in carrying bag).
3 Electrical connection
The calibration source has to be connected with the provided
power supply. After switching on the heating-up period starts
automatically. The built-in status LED indicates the operating
status of the calibration source:
green: warm-up
orange: ready for operation
red: overheating
4 Inspection of pyrometers
The unit must be connected to the power supply for a minimum of 20 minutes before checking the
pyrometer. Additionally the pyrometer’s emissivity should be adjusted to 98%.
4.1 Measuring setup
Note:
- Before checking a pyrometer, please ensure the lens is clean. If necessary
the lens can be cleaned with compressed air, which is dry and free of oil or
with a soft, dry cloth such as that used to clean camera lenses.
- Avoid air flow to keep the surface temperature uniformly.
- The temperature of the calibration source has to be minimum 10°C above
the ambient temperature to ensure a faultless control function.
